How armed robbers stole MZVEE music video money

Songstress MzVee has narrated a gory incident that happened to her when she went to South Africa to shoot a video for her new song, Baby.

According to her, she had some dollars [payment for the video and hotel bills] with her from the airport.

She said after she and her team left the airport, they dashed into a shop to get some items they will need for their stay in South Africa for a week.

But unfortunately for them, they were trailed by some armed robbers and they were robbed off the money they had on them after they left the shop.

She said although she almost gave up on the dream to shoot the video, the members on her team motivated her to stay strong.

“The song I just released has a fascinating story attached to it. I shot the video in South Africa and when we got there we were robbed. After we had left the airport, we dashed into a shop to get items we will be using for our stay in South Africa but after we left the shop, some people were looking at me someway. I don’t know whether it was because of the bag or something but they followed us and robbed us of all the dollars we had on us. All the money I was going to use for the project was taken including our passports.

“I had to meet the video director for the first time and make some payments but we had to meet at the Police station. When we were coming we had to use the Police Statements. They stopped us at the airport and we were there for a very long time before we were allowed passage. I must say that the people around me motivated me. I could feel they were worried but they had to put on that smile to spur me on,” MzVee told Miriam on 3FM in Accra

God will punish Charterhouse – DKB invokes curses on live radio

Ghanaian comedian, Derrick Kobina Bonney aka DKB has invoked curses on events company Charterhouse for what he describes as ”plunging Ghanaian comedy in a deplorable state.”

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM monitored by, DKB indicated that Charterhouse in the past insulted Ghanaian comedians and described them as not funny.

According to him, such names calling affected the growth of the comedy industry; a reason they are struggling to get out of that uncomfortable hitch.

”For Charterhouse, God will punish them. Anywhere Charterhouse people are, they should listen to me, God will punish them one by one. You see that you(Ola Michael) said that we are funny and doing well so how come, you come out there with your PRO to destroy us like that for 5 years causing public disbelief, making people doubt us even before we pick a microphone.

”Do you know how sad it was? From 2010 to 2015, comedy shows with 5 cedis as gate fee, people refused buying all because of Charterhouse. Everyday, praising Nigeria comedians, what did we do to deserve that?” he questioned.

He added that, ”If Charterhouse wants to make amends, the 5 years that they used to destroy Ghana comedy, they should go round and be telling everybody, comedians are funny, Ghana comedians are funny before we agree. It’s not about we are sorry and that, we will put you on our shows every year”

My parents insulted me when they found out I had lost my virginity – Efia Odo

In a typical African home, a conversation around sex is a taboo and it’s highly abhorred. Parents find it extremely hard holding a conversation with their adolescents around sexuality even when they know that their children are practising sex.

The African culture and tradition married with foreign religious values have compounded the problem. It’s believed that talking to your children about sex will make them promiscuous when they grow up. To avoid this, the topic is totally banned in the home.

Study has proven that parents who hold conversations with their children on the topic of sexual and reproductive health, tend to have children who grow up knowing how to be responsible when it comes to engaging in sexual activities.

In light of the loud silence on the topic, Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, asked on her twitter handle to find out whether the topic is been discussed in the various homes. She tweeted: “How many of you had your parents sit you down and have the sex talk with you?”

Responding to the question, Ghanaian actress, Efia Odo revealed that she had the chance of holding such a conversation with her parents only when she lost her virginity. “Had the talk after I broke my virginity. It wasn’t even a talk… it was a whole bunch of insults”, she wrote.

Stubbornness is why Abraham Attah is ahead of me – Strika

When Strika starred in the same movie, Beast of No Nation as Abraham Attah in 2015, things took a different turn for the latter as he progressed and now schools abroad but for the former it was a different story.

Strika about a year ago was seen on the street hawking something that shook the entertainment industry considering the fact that the proceeds he got from that particular movie was enough to change his life but as it stands that is not the case.

Real name Emmanuel Nii Adokwei , Strika in an interview with Abraham Offei of Glovantis Multimedia blamed his inability to be on the same page as his colleague Abraham Attah on his stubbornness.

“I would say I am here because of my stubbornness, I believe that if I had taken life, the opportunities and myself seriously, I would not be here today. Unlike me, Abraham took advantage of the situation and made good use of it,” he told the host.

Asked if he has any regrets looking at where Abraham is at the moment, he noted, “if I say I have regrets, it will sound like I am jealous of where he is which is not the case. Like I said, it is my stubbornness that has rendered me in my current state.”

When asked why he didn’t take his education serious as that could have also helped shaped his life, he said, “before I was enrolled into the Montessori school in Cape Coast after the Beast of No Nation movie, I hadn’t stepped in any school, so it was difficult grasping want was being taught, I didn’t get anything so I had no interest in schooling. I recall that I had to suggest to my superiors that they should just find some vocational school for me, something that I can do with my hands rather than going to the classroom.”

Asked if he has any relatives looking after him now, he said, “yes, I have an aunty who is doing her best to take care of me, in fact I’m currently in vocational training and she is the one taking care of everything.”

On what his future plans are, he said, “if would like to go to an arts or acting school.”

Shatta Wale is my ‘godfather’ not ‘sex partner’ – Wendy Shay

Singer Wendy Shay has denied having amorous relationship with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.

Wendy Shay has since her music career been battling questions on whether or not she has sexual relation with her Manager, Bullet.

She recently raged against Accra FM’s Presenter, Nana Romeo for insisting he had evidence of her alleged sex relationship with Bullet and dared to make the evidence public if she challenges him.

The Presenter’s insistent behavior caused Wendy to walk out of the studios.

Wendy Shay has constantly refuted the sex allegations against her but it appears the allegations are far from over.

The singer faced similar interrogation with host Abeiku Santana on Okay FM’s Drive Time when she appeared in the studios to promote her new song ‘Emergency’.

She was questioned on her relationship with Shatta Wale because the two were recently spotted at an event which saw the latter plant a kiss on her cheek.

There are other occasions too where Shatta Wale has been speaking fondly of her.

In her response, she stated categorically that she and Shatta Wale only have a unique chemistry but their relationship has nothing to do with them exercising their waists on the bed.

“We share some chemistry. I haven’t found such chemistry with any male artiste yet…Shatta Wale knows he’s my godfather,” she emphasized.

Audience Will Go Live For 2020 VGMA – Charterhouse

The CEO of Charterhouse, Theresa Ayoade, says that this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) slated for August will have a live audience.

Loading… Loading…

She revealed that the venue for the event would host about 100 people while observing the needed health protocols including social distancing.

According to her, the audience would consist of artistes who would perform and other nominated acts.

Explaining why the 2020 VGMA has delayed, she said, “We just needed the government to ease restrictions a little bit so we could have a few more people at the event because we could not just work with 25 people.”

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z show, Mrs Ayoade told George Quaye, host of the show, that her team had put together a plan that would help them run a successful show.

“The event will be about 80% virtual and 20% live. We will have some live performances and hope we have all the artistes present to pick up their awards,” she added.

She said that the organizers would issue a statement that would communicate to Ghanaians what to expect on the night.

The VGMA is being organized to reward deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to Ghana’s music industry.

This year’s edition marks the 21st edition of the event, which has over the years celebrated hardworking players in the music industry.

Since its inception in 2000, the VGMA has grown to become the biggest event on the Ghanaian entertainment calendar, designed to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of various players in Ghana’s music industry.

The Assistant Full Movie Review

The Assistant Movie Review – A shape glides across the screen. It moves fast, like it’s just homing in on its next meal.

There’s time only to register a rough shape – a mass of shoulder, encased in sharp tailoring. Its face sits just outside of frame. You can almost hear the rumble of the Jaws theme start to grow. In Kitty Green’s The Assistant, we never discover the name this threatening figuregoes by. There are only context clues: a stark Manhattan office littered with elegant, minimalist movie posters; hushed phone calls about test screenings and trips to LA; and a young woman, with fear in her eyes, who arrives to pick up an earring left on the floor of the boss’ office.

We know the predator in question is meant to be Harvey Weinstein. The fact Green allows him only to be referred to as “Him”, often in a timid whisper, speaks to the devastating power of her film. “Him” might be Weinstein, but he could also be any of the other men – the ones not currently sitting jail – who abuse their position in order to harm and exploit others. Her film doesn’t deal in the specifics of Weinstein’s crimes, but in the culture of complicity and silence that allowed them to go unpunished for decades.

With three documentaries already to her name, including 2017’s Casting JonBenét, Green now takes on her first narrative feature. But the approach doesn’t differ all that much: the Australian filmmaker interviewed around a hundred former and current assistants, working in different industries, and then compiled the results into a single character, seen over the course of a single day.

Her first name is Jane (Julia Garner). Though her surname isn’t given, it might as well be Doe. Her work hours are filled with small, monotonous tasks: making coffee, filling the fridges with Fiji water, printing out the day’s schedules, clearing up pastry crumbs, opening mail. She arrives before dawn and leaves well after dusk. Green catalogues these actions in tight, claustrophobic shots – but there are details that seem out of place. Jane scrubs a stain out of the boss’ couch. She logs checks with no names on them. But then a young woman (Kristine Froseth), with pillow lips and Bambi eyes, arrives to the office. She reveals that she’s the new assistant. Jane is told to drop her off a hotel. Then her boss disappears from the office. What existed only as hints before now unveils itself as the complete portrait of monster.

The Assistant isn’t about empowerment (that’s a task for other filmmakers), but presents a cruel, unvarnished reality. The dialogue is sparse; the lighting deals in harsh fluorescents. All that’s here is the slow, terrifying sensation of being trapped in a spider’s web. Jane’s colleagues play-act camaraderie, but they inevitably shift the day’s more “womanly” tasks onto her (washing dishes, fixing vacuums, and even helping with childcare) and only wander over to make patronising suggestions on how to phrase her apology emails. Worse still, they’re clued in on the office’s open secret, but choose to joke about it – “I wouldn’t sit there”, they cackle, pointing to the recently cleaned sofa. When Jane tries to speak up, she’s greeted with Matthew Macfayden’s smiling, empty-souled HR rep. It’s another masterclass in unctuousness from the Succession star.

Green has captured the specific, nauseating feeling of both complicity and powerlessness – telegraphed so beautifully on Garner’s features. You can see mountains caving in within those bright, blue eyes. They water up, but the tears never find release. In truth, we never find out much about Jane. This is a place for drones, not humans. But The Assistant, masterfully nuanced at every level, lets us put the pieces together: a “Big Hug” mug, Froot Loops for breakfast, and fragile dreams of becoming a producer. Things don’t end with revelation or action, but with a phone call to Jane’s parents. What’s said and not said is the stuff of heartbreak. Weinstein may have been toppled, but there are many more Janes out there – left untethered and lost in fear.

Rebel In Rye Full Movie Review

Rebel in the Rye Full Movie Review – a long-in-limbo biopic of Catcher in the Rye author JD Salinger, is already something of a time capsule.

A relic presumably once designed for Oscar attention, it also bears the ungainly weight of pre-#MeToo ignorance, with Kevin Spacey cast as a kindly mentor to Nicholas Hoult’s reclusive hero. For the film’s UK release, nearly three years after its limited theatrical unveiling in the US, Spacey has unsurprisingly been scrubbed from its cover art. The same treatment should have been extended to the film itself.

Salinger, who died in 2010, was famously aloof. Although he was responsible for one of the most acclaimed novels in the literary canon, he rejected the attention and adulation it brought. Catcher in the Rye, his only full-length work, remains seminal – a petulant shriek of angst and unrest about a disaffected teen who flees to the big city for Christmas. Even in its largely sheltered perspective, there is a universal apathy to it that continues to strike a chord with young generations.

Those same fans will probably find something troubling about the existence of Rebel in the Rye, which clumsily attempts to celebrate Salinger’s genius while disrespecting his life-long pursuit of privacy. The film charts Salinger’s apprehensive rise and determined withdrawal from the literary world. Hoult plays the man in question, skilfully imbuing him with a skittish reserve. The supporting cast are good too, from Sarah Paulson as a boozy publisher, to a warmly benevolent Spacey as Salinger’s professor at Columbia.

If only they were served appropriately by the writer/director Danny Strong, a former Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor who co-created the TV soap Empire. In his hands, Salinger is himself the least-flattering reading of Catcher’s Holden Caulfield: spoilt, exhausting, obnoxiously cynical.

The script is similarly lazy. Rather than properly explore the trauma Salinger experienced in the Second World War, or the pains of his romantic relationships (first with Eugene O’Neill’s daughter, played by Zoey Deutch, and later a dismissive graduate student played by Lucy Boynton), it races through his biography as it it were a Wikipedia page. Characters repeatedly inform us of their feelings as a result. “The book has made me a prisoner,” Salinger cries at one point. “I’ve been shackled by my own creation!”

Towards the very end of the film, Salinger’s publisher informs him that numerous directors are pursuing the screen rights to Catcher in the Rye, all of whom Salinger rejects. “It’d never work as a movie,” he insists. It’s the most ironic line in the film.

Rebel in the Rye is available to buy and stream.
