Former Abia State Governor governor, Theodore Orji And Son Arrested By EFCC Following N48b Security Votes
Sen. Theodore Orji, former Governor of Abia State, and his son, Chinedu, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly misappropriating N48 billion in security votes.
They were also indicted on charges of misappropriating N2 billion from the Ecological Fund and converting Sure-P monies between 2007 and 2015, when the former governor was in office.
According to EFCC sources, the former governor, who had been on the Commission’s watch list, was apprehended at the Nnamdi International Airport in Abuja at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 19 and taken to the EFCC offices in Jabi, Abuja for further interrogation. His son went to the commission’s office and reported himself.
“He is being quizzed alongside his son, Chinedu, the current Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, who turned himself in this afternoon upon learning of the arrest of his father.
Senator Orji and his sons, Chinedu and Ogbonna, are under investigation by the EFCC for offences bordering on misappropriation of public funds and money laundering.
The ex- Governor is alleged to have collected N500million monthly as security vote for eight years as governor of Abia state between 2007 and 2015.
Other issues relate to the alleged mismanagement of N2billion Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds.”the source said
