Majority of fans say better if Messi had left Barcelona – AS survey

The majority of 26,000-plus fans surveyed in an AS poll have said that they disagree with Lionel Messi’s decision to stay at Barcelona.

Lionel Messi’s decision to stay at Barcelona has not gone down well with fans. Of the more than 26,000 participants surveyed in an AS poll who were asked: ‘Do you agree with Messi staying at Barcelona?’, 61.6% have said ‘No’, while 38.4% have stated ‘Yes’.

These results indicate the significant loss of support for the Argentine superstar. The soap opera involving Messi and Barcelona – which began early last week after the player sent a burofax demanding to leave the club – ended on Friday when Messi himself confirmed he would stay at Camp Nou in an interview with Goal.

As Barça insisted the only way Messi could leave was through the payment of his €700million release clause, the club’s talisman and captain has accepted he has no choice but to stay – as goes his account in the interview.

Read the full Messi interview here.

Messi: “I would never go to court against Barcelona”

“I thought and was sure that I was free to leave, the president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I stayed or not. Now they cling to the fact that I did not say it before June 10, when it turns out that on June 10 we were competing for LaLiga in the middle of this awful coronavirus and this disease altered the whole season,” Messi told Goal.

“And this is the reason why I am going to continue in the club. Now I am going to continue in the club because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the €700million clause, and that this is impossible.

“There was another way and it was to go to trial. I would never go to court against Barça because it is the club that I love, which gave me everything since I arrived, it is the club of my life, I have made my life here. Barça gave me everything and I gave it everything. I know that it never crossed my mind to take Barça to court.”

Messi slams Barcelona president Bartomeu

Barcelona have stayed relatively silent following the interview, apart from a post on their twitter page including a photo of Messi accompanied by a quote from the star: “I will give it my all. My love for Barça will never change.”

But the reality is Messi still wants to leave Barcelona, a fact that was very clear from the star’s Goal interview, during which he also made severe criticisms of club president, Josep Bartomeu.

“The burofax was to make it official in some way. Throughout the year I had been telling the president that I wanted to leave, that the time had come to seek new goals and new directions in my career. He told me all the time: ‘We’ll talk, not now,’ this and that, but nothing [happened]. The president did not give me a clue at what he was really saying,” said Messi.

“Sending the burofax was making it official that I wanted to go and that I was free and the optional year – I was not going to use it and I wanted to go. It was not to make a mess, or to go against the club, but the way to make it official because my decision had been made.”

Named “Sputnik V,” the vaccine is due to enter mass production soon, and will be available to the general public from January 2021. Despite being registered, the vaccine will still go through more clinical trials in Russia and the Middle East.

Audi Apologises For Advert Showing Little Girl Eating Banana (Photo)

German carmaker Audi has apologised for an ‘insensitive’ advert showing a little girl leaning on the front of a high-performance car while she eats a banana.

The advert, promoting the Audi RS 4 Avant, was posted on the company’s official Twitter account and attracted criticism from some social media users who described it as “sexually suggestive”, “strange” and “creepy”.

Critics also suggested the advert glorifies “dangerous driving” and shows a child at risk of being run over.

Audi said the advert was a “mistake”, tweeting that such mistake would not be made in future.

Their Twitter Statement Read;

“We hear you and let’s get this straight: We care for children. The Audi RS 4 is a family car with more than thirty driver assistance systems including an emergency break system. That’s why we showcased it with various family members for the campaign.

We hoped we could convey these messages, showing that even for the weakest traffic participants it is possible to relaxingly lean on the RS technology. That was a mistake! Audi never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.

We sincerely apologize for this insensitive image and ensure that it will not be used in future.

We will also immediately examine internally, how this campaign has been created and if control mechanisms failed in this case. “

However, other social media users said they could not see what was “offensive” or “provocative” about the advert.

See More Reactions Below;

@Holly__Storm: Right, so for all the banally, but thankfully morally minded people saying “you need yer head lookin at” if anyone sees this as wrong etc, there’s something called cultural conditioning. You see it with things which seems mildly offensive or inappropriate, but are overlooked a

@FoxxysTweets: The problem is not with the advert or a girl eating a banana, its the friggin sickos who see a young girl eating a banana and their minds go to sex.

@DipBrig11: Apologised? How the hell us this ‘sensitive? It’s a child eating a banana. What sickos see anything else??

@Calvinroche1: I’m offended by this…how dare people not be offended by this content…utterly disgraceful…Audi should be liquidated for this behaviour

99 percent of female Ghanaian celebrities are into prostitution – Shatana claims

Singer Ranaya Pappoe has alleged that about 99 percent of female Ghanaian celebrities are into prostitution.

In an interview with Prince Tsegah a.k.a Da Don on Asempa FM, the musician popularly known as Shatana said she has witnessed a couple of instances where several Ghanaian female celebrities were enjoying themselves in the art of prostitution.

She furthered that her claim might come as a surprise to hundreds of Ghanaians due to the level of respect some female celebrities command in the Ghanaian society but that wouldn’t deter her from saying the truth.

“I can tell you for a fact that about 99 percent of the celebrities who have rebranded themselves as slay queens are into prostitution. I live at East Legon and trust me, I have seen most of these female celebs doing big time prostitution over there. I’m not here to mention names but they know I know them because I see them all the time. It’s so sad that society has rather targeted some people who only ventured into the art to make ends meet,” she said.

The singer continued: ‘’I’m not defending nor supporting the art of prostitution but I’m against how society chastises these prostitutes we see on our street every day and rather hail the slay queen celebs who are the real kingpins of the game.”

Explaining her affection for the daily commercial sex workers on the show, Shatana indicated that so many people have fallen prey to the art prostitution due unforeseen circumstances.

Citing some ladies she helped during the lockdown period as an example, she explained that she had no interest in meddling in the affairs of prostitutes until she had a strong conviction to help some of them to turn a new leaf.

“I never knew matters concerning prostitutes will become paramount to my heart until the coronavirus and its lockdown set in, I had a strong conviction to save some of them because I realized they were more exposed to the contraction of the deadly disease hence I embarked on a mission to save most them by providing them with relief items and education. Some of them has genuinely changed but the others told me point blank that they can never change and that is why I’m soliciting for your support to help turn the lives of these prostitutes,” she noted.

Touching on her latest EP album, “Let Me Talk”, she stressed that the songs on her album is in tandem with everything she has been preaching about for years now.

7 texts that will make any Ghanaian guy happy

If you see a guy smiling at his phone, there are always only a few reasons why he’s grinning from ear to ear.

After an intensive survey (don’t doubt my methods) we found out that these are the only reasons why a man’s face will light up in joy when he picks up his phone!

“Congratulations your Bet ID paid out…”

This only means one thing. The bet turned out well and he’s going to cash out!

“My roommate is not around”

This text usually comes right after “Can you come over?” and sometimes comes in the form of “Theres no one at home”. He knows it’s about to get down if he is lucky and the joy he’s feeling is indescribable.

Momo alerts

Everyone likes money but not as much as a guy receiving an alert from anyone. They get extra happy when it’s from someone owing them some money.

“Make we link up”

Men loooove their male friends even though all they do is diss each other. When a friend texts that they link up in someone’s house or their favourite bar… they’d dance if they could!

“I’m horny”

If he’s weeping and wailing, I promise you this text will immediately switch his mood.

Football banter with his friends

As long as he’s doing the banter and his team is winning, you’d see him smiling and texting!

So ladies and other gentlemen, now you know what will make that guy smile so…do it! Make his day!

Fuse ODG burns painting of Jesus Christ

UK-based Ghanaian afrobeats star Fuse ODG has committed what many Christians deem as blasphemy as he sets a painting of Jesus Christ ablaze.

Jesus Christ is considered as the founder and a strong pillar of Christianity as well as the saviour of humanity. Thus, his name and images are held in high esteem across churches in the world.

However, the ‘Dangerous Love’ hitmaker believes it’s wrong for Christians, especially Africans, to hang the images of Christ on their walls in churches and in their homes.

According to Fuse ODG, the painting of white Jesus represents our oppressors and is the seed of dictators like Adolf Hitler, the apartheid in South Africa, the Rwandan genocide and skin bleaching.

In a 14-minutes video he shared on his Instagram page, he noted that it’s time for Africans to unlearn the lies by its slave masters and be responsible when dealing with the truth.

“For the oppressed, as Africans, we can hope that the oppressors can do the right thing but we cannot depend on it. We need to take our faith into our own hands. We have the responsibility to deal with our own truth and it starts with this (pointing to Jesus’ painting),” he stated.

“This is a seed. This is the seed that gave birth to [Adolf] Hitler and his doctrine. This is the seed that gave birth to the KKK, the apartheid in South Africa, the Rwandan genocide, a people of colour bleaching across the globe till date as we speak, and the list goes on.”

He said it’s not wrong to worship any image of God or Jesus because the Bible prohibits.

“This is not even biblical. If you read the Bible, it specifically tells us not to create any images in the form of a man or a woman or any creature on earth. This is ‘idology’ and again if you read the Bible there’s nothing that got hate than idol worship. We need to take down this images and worship God in spirit and in truth.”

He ended by saying, “this needs to be taken down from every single church in Africa”, before setting the painting of Jesus ablaze

I have never voted in my life, but I will vote for Nana Addo this year – Mr Logic

Music producer and entertainment analyst, Emmanuel Barnes, also known as Mr. Logic, has declared that he will vote for the first time in his life in December and he will vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo because of his care and support for the creative art industry in this trying moment.

The creative art industry, like many sectors of the economy, has been hardest hit by the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic following the cancellation of entertainment programs due to the ban on public gathering.

In order to mitigate the devastating effect of the Coronavirus on the industry and to help mitigate the effects on the industry and its members, government has announced a 50 million cedis alleviation package for the creative art industry .

It is this thoughtful, bold step by the government which has moved the popular music producer to end his self-imposed voting ban and declare his confidence in President Akufo-Addo’s government.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall Show, Mr. Logic revealed that he has never voted in his life but he will vote for President Akufo-Addo the first time he votes in December because the President has demonstrated that he is a listening father who cares about the creative art industry at a time industries have been hit by the global pandemic.

“All through my life, I have never voted because I never saw anything good that any government did for my industry. But at this particular time of my life, as an industry player, as a creative art person, I can say Nana Addo has done something for us. Now, I am proud to be a Ghanaian, I am patriotic and I am ready to vote,” said the music producer.

“I have registered and I wouldn’t have wasted my vote if I voted for Nana Addo. I will vote for him because I have always said that I will vote for a party whose policies will benefit what I do.”

The music producer commended President Akufo-Addo for listening to the cries of the industry, which he said has been greatly affected by the pandemic.

“Coronavirus has ravaged our industry. We spent so much on production and we get nothing in return. We have lamented on radio and finally Nana Addo has heard our call.”

“To be a President, you also have to be a father and you have to be a listener. Nana Addo has listened to our cry. Let us put politics aside; a government which shows concern is the one which deserves to be supported and voted.”

Mr. Logic urged members of the creative arts industry to take advantage of the government’s package to re-invest and get back on track.

He urged members without tax identification numbers (TIN) to get some because that could be a key requirement for accessing the package.

The effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the music and entertainment industry has been dire, as it is one of the industries which has come to a complete halt.

While a few programs and artistes have resorted to virtual performances, several musical shows and entertainment programmes have been cancelled indefinitely due to outbreak.

Other analysts on the show commended the government for earmarking 50 million cedis alleviation package for the creative arts industry, a step they believe will help uplift the industry and members post Coronavirus

Coronavirus: Oxford Vaccine Trigger Immune Response, UK Orders 100 Million Doses

A coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford appears safe and triggers an immune response.

Trials involving 1,077 people showed the injection led to them making antibodies and T-cells that can fight coronavirus.

The findings are hugely promising, but it is still too soon to know if this is enough to offer protection and larger trials are under way.

The UK has already ordered 100 million doses of the vaccine.
How does the vaccine work?

The vaccine – called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 – is being developed at unprecedented speed.

It is made from a genetically engineered virus that causes the common cold in chimpanzees.

It has been heavily modified, first so it cannot cause infections in people and also to make it “look” more like coronavirus.

Scientists did this by transferring the genetic instructions for the coronavirus’s “spike protein” – the crucial tool it uses to invade our cells – to the vaccine they were developing.

This means the vaccine resembles the coronavirus and the immune system can learn how to attack it.
What are antibodies and T-cells?

Much of the focus on coronavirus so far has been about antibodies, but these are only one part of our immune defence.

Antibodies are small proteins made by the immune system that stick onto the surface of viruses.

Neutralising antibodies can disable the coronavirus.

T-cells, a type of white blood cell, help co-ordinate the immune system and are able to spot which of the body’s cells have been infected and destroy them.

Nearly all effective vaccines induce both an antibody and a T-cell response.

Levels of T-cells peaked 14 days after vaccination and antibody levels peaked after 28 days. The study has not run for long enough to understand how long they may last, the study in the Lancet showed.

Prof Andrew Pollard, from the Oxford research group told the BBC: “We’re really pleased with the results published today as we’re seeing both neutralising antibodies and T-cells.

“They’re extremely promising and we believe the type of response that may be associated with protection.

“But the key question everyone wants to know is does the vaccine work, does it offer protection… and we’re in a waiting game.

The study showed 90% of people developed neutralising antibodies after one dose. Only ten people were given two doses and all of them produced neutralising antibodies.

“We don’t know the level needed for protection, but we can maximise responses with a second dose,” Prof Pollard told the BBC.
Is it safe?

Yes, but there are side-effects.

There were no dangerous side-effects from taking the vaccine, however, 70% of people on the trial developed either fever or headache.

The researchers say this could be managed with paracetamol.

Prof Sarah Gilbert, from the University of Oxford, UK, says: “There is still much work to be done before we can confirm if our vaccine will help manage the Covid-19 pandemic, but these early results hold promise.”
What are the next steps in the trial?

The results so far are promising, but their main purpose is to ensure the vaccine is safe enough to give to people.

The study cannot show whether the vaccine can either prevent people from becoming ill or even lessen their symptoms of Covid-19.

More than 10,000 people will take part in the next stage of the trials in the UK.

However, the trial has also been expanded to other countries because levels of coronavirus are low in the UK, making it hard to know if the vaccine is effective.

There will be a large trial involving 30,000 people in the US as well 2,000 in South Africa and 5,000 in Brazil.

There are also calls to perform “challenge trials” in which vaccinated people are deliberately infected with coronavirus. However, there are ethical concerns due to a lack of treatments.
When will I get a vaccine?

It is possible a coronavirus vaccine will be proven effective before the end of the year, however, it will not be widely available.

Health and care workers will be prioritised as will people who are deemed at high risk from Covid-19 due to their age or medical conditions.

However, widespread vaccination is likely to be, at the earliest, next year even if everything goes to plan.

Boris Johnson said: “Obviously I’m hopeful, I’ve got my fingers crossed, but to say I’m 100% confident we’ll get a vaccine this year, or indeed next year, is, alas, just an exaggeration.

“We’re not there yet.”
What progress is being made with other vaccines?

The Oxford vaccine is not the first to reach this stage, with groups in the US and China also publishing similar results.

The US company Moderna was first out of the blocks and its vaccine can produce neutralising antibodies. They are injecting coronavirus RNA (its genetic code), which then starts making viral proteins in order to trigger an immune response

Audience Will Go Live For 2020 VGMA – Charterhouse

The CEO of Charterhouse, Theresa Ayoade, says that this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) slated for August will have a live audience.

She revealed that the venue for the event would host about 100 people while observing the needed health protocols including social distancing.

According to her, the audience would consist of artistes who would perform and other nominated acts.

Explaining why the 2020 VGMA has delayed, she said, “We just needed the government to ease restrictions a little bit so we could have a few more people at the event because we could not just work with 25 people.”

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z show, Mrs Ayoade told George Quaye, host of the show, that her team had put together a plan that would help them run a successful show.

“The event will be about 80% virtual and 20% live. We will have some live performances and hope we have all the artistes present to pick up their awards,” she added.

She said that the organizers would issue a statement that would communicate to Ghanaians what to expect on the night.

The VGMA is being organized to reward deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to Ghana’s music industry.

This year’s edition marks the 21st edition of the event, which has over the years celebrated hardworking players in the music industry.

Since its inception in 2000, the VGMA has grown to become the biggest event on the Ghanaian entertainment calendar, designed to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of various players in Ghana’s music industry.
