– The Italian tactician has since been named Juventus new boss
– His departure from Stamford Bridge could open floodgates for Gianfranco Zola’s exit
The Italian made a return to Stamford Bridge last year to become Maurizio Sarri’s assistant manager in a one-year deal.
However, following Sarri’s departure to Juventus, Chelsea have reportedly resolved not to extend Zola’s deal.
According to a talkSPORT report citing Sky Sports, Chelsea offered Zola an ambassadorial role with the club, but the 52-year-old turned down the position as he is keen to develop his coaching career.
Zola, a Chelsea legend who spent six years as a player for the Blues is now tipped to link up with Sarri at Juventus.
His exit could clear the way for Frank Lampard to become the new boss at Stamford Bridge.
The club legend is bookmakers clear favourite to succeed Sarri and reports suggest the Chelsea legend has since held talks with club owner, Roman Abramovich, over a possible switch.
He is currently Derby County manager and the Championship club are reluctant to let him leave after he guided them to the Championship play-off final last season.
