Shonekan Will Be Remembered For His Courage, Selflessness To Nigeria – Oyetola

Chief Ernest Shonekan, according to Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, was a leader who will be remembered for his courage, selflessness, and patriotic devotion to the country during a difficult time.

Governor Oyetola further hailed Chief Shonekan as an “older statesman” and “industrialist” whose remarkable talents revealed a strong dedication to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and prosperity both in and out of office.

The Governor stated this in a condolence statement written by Ismail Omipidan, his Chief Press Secretary, and made accessible to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

While expressing regret over the death of the former leader of the Interim National Government, the Osun governor stated that his death had left a space that would take a long time to fill.

In his words, “On behalf of my family, government and people of Osun, I commiserate with the wife of Chief Ernest Shonekan, his family, government and people of Ogun State.

“I pray God grant the soul of Chief Shonekan eternal rest and give his beloved wife, family and the people of Ogun State the fortitude to bear his loss.”

Chief Ernest Shonekan, a former Chairman of UAC Plc, died on Tuesday morning in Lagos. Between August 26 and November 17, 1993, he was the Interim National Government of Nigeria’s leader before being deposed by General Sani Abacha.

In other news, Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has stated that he is not frightened to run for President on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC, alongside Vice President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo and Alhaji Bola Tinibu.

Umahi, who has stated his ambition to run for president in the 2023 general election, has shown his willingness to build the country, asserting that he will pick up where President Muhammadu Buhari left off.

In an interview with Channel television on Tuesday, Umahi stated that the southeast geopolitical zone is united and deserves the chance to run the country.

Power, according to the governor who informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to run for President, originates from God.

“I believe that it is God who spoke to me to contest for President under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC. And I have told President Muhammadu Buhari of my intention to contest. WE must do anything possible to remove ethnicity in the country.

“You know that Mr President is a father. And he believes in given everybody equal opportunities to exercise their faith. And so, you would expect Mr. President to be a man of integrity. He told me that people who will contest for President must consult wildly.

“I’m not a mind reader and I don’t know what is in the mind of Mr President. If it pleases God, He will input me in the heart of President Muhammadu Buhari and I will become that favoured candidate. But for now, he has not told me and I cannot read his (Buhari) mind.

“The truth remains that I can’t deny that there is sentiment among our people on the lack of inclusiveness on the politics of Nigeria. The truth remains that it is not going to be by force but by dialogues, by persuasion and sitting down with the leaders of this country and making them see reasons. It is important that we don’t frighten any section of this country.

“Power belongs to God. For God to take someone from Prison and made him the President of this country, is a frightening miracle than talking of running for president against those people (Tinibu, Osibanjo) you mentioned. I’m not in Prison and I’m not afraid” he stated
