Just as it happened during the 2020 elections, members of parliament of the 8th parliament of government engaged in a physical scuffle during a debate on the controversial E-levy.

The brawl was between a school of thought who are against the passing of the E-levy bill and a section of the parliamentarians who support the initiation of the E-levy bill.

In reaction to the unfortunate and shameful act of the parliamentarians in parliament yesterday, Afia Schwarzenegger stated that the MPs should be commended over their efforts in fighting for the average Ghanaians in parliament.

She made a sarcastic post on her Instagram page by saying the members of parliament should be applauded and fighting in parliament because they are doing so on behalf of Ghanaians and as such, Ghanaians should be grateful.

In other news, the Mobile Money Agents’ Association of Ghana has revealed its intentions to embark on a nationwide strike on Thursday 23rd December 2021 over e-levy. According to the union, the controversial 1.75 E-levy documented in the 2022 “Agyenkwa” budget is adverse to their business.

The General Secretary of the Union, Evans Otumfour intimated in a statement released by the union that mobile money agents will not be available across the country on the day they embark on their nationwide strike in a bid to send a message to the government of Ghana.

“We see this levy as very regressive and critical to the survival of our businesses. Consequently, as part of our demonstration on Thursday, December 23, 2021, our services as mobile money agents will not be accessible across the country”, he said.
